shape, strength, peace
at the time,
the Wellness Coach where I worked started a race. For every activity we did as an exercise, we had to track the time and keep it on a spreadsheet, which we would hand in at the end of the week. So, my yoga counted, as well as walks on weekends, belly dancing, and just dancing in my living room, and when spring rolled around and I rejoined the golf course after a 2-year hiatus, the added walk of 9 or 18 holes. Each activity had its energy level, and the Coach translated it into miles. I logged a lot of miles without running or biking! And I didn’t even garden yet. Lived in a condo (what my husband calls the magic condo, a story for another day).
I started with a video, watched yoga episodes on the same Discovery network, and attended a couple of classes to get realigned or put back if I had strayed from form. Also incorporated a few of the office stretches the Wellness Coach taught us and added some belly dancing warmups. It’s a hodgepodge, my hodgepodge.
two of my favorite poses
are Child Pose (Balasana) and Mermaid Pose (Naginyasana). Sometimes, a pose was so far from what it was supposed to be that I laughed out loud until one day, surprised, I realized I’m there! The one pose I do not hold anymore is Downward Dog. Trying to make up for missing my yoga practice a few days, I over-stretched and pulled a hamstring.
