choose wisely what you dwell on

Mere Christianity

sunlight,

though it has no favourites,

cannot be reflected in a dusty mirror

as clearly as in a clean one

what we want most to be we are

ask for the ancient paths,

ask where the good way is, and walk in it,

i’ve had the verse on my desk for months, but the moment i saw it this morning i knew it would be a motto — for the day, a week, a month?

Girl In Hyacinth Blue

or if the world would care

Tao Te Ching

love your own life

* i started a scrapbook after a 1999 trip to italy.
wrote on a notebook every day: what i saw, learned, experienced, and transposed it onto a beautiful hardbound notebook, along with sketches of art and of photographs i had taken, then allowed myself to be blind-sided and did not complete it. jeremiah was one of my favorites — both my sketch and michaelangelo’s. standing under the vaulted ceiling i found it hard to part from him. must have been the shades of oranges and yellows … although the same happened in florence with david, and there are no shades in him at all

it’s been so long since i’ve sketched
